HP's new A4 inkjet printer comes with built-in wired and wireless printing, allowing up to five computers to print via 802.11g or Ethernet. The innovative 6-colour Deskjet 6840 is also speedy with a claimed throughtput of up to 30ppm (20ppm colour) at a native print resolution of 1200x1200dpi (4800dpi optimised). Direct photo printing independently of a computer is possible thanks to PictBridge support, and you can also print custom size photos with or without borders. Other key features include 32MB of RAM, an automatic paper type sensor, and an optional 250-sheet plain paper tray for improved paper handling (just 150 sheets supported as standard). To make connecting to a wireless network more intuitive the Deskjet 6840 features a small LCD control panel, showing the wireless and networking status of the printer.

Developed to meet the productivity demands of households containing multiple computers for both business and personal use, the HP Deskjet 6840 offers users a simple solution for quality printing without wires.

Connection to the computer network is straightforward and requires little to no configuration, ensuring that set-up and use are simplified for all users. Users can share the printer among up to five users either within a wired environment through the built-in Ethernet port or by choosing the embedded wireless (802.11g) technology for complete freedom from wires.

High performance is key for home workers and small businesses and the HP Deskjet 6840 delivers 30ppm printing in laser quality black and 20ppm in colour. Additionally, a 150 sheet capacity printer tray for few paper changes saves time and money. The option to add a second tray increases capacity to 400 sheets. Two-sided printing enhances productivity further still, while a paper sensor automatically adjusts settings to best suit the paper loaded.

As well as sharp laser-quality black text, the versatile Deskjet 6840 provides all the qualities of a dedicated photo printer. With up to 4800-optimised dpi colour printing, even the finest photo details can be captured. For those requiring even higher image quality, an optional photo cartridge is available delivering 6-ink printing with HP Photosmart IV precision technology. HP Image Zone software, included with this printer, lets people work with their photos - editing, enhancing, fixing flaws and organising pictures easily. Furthermore, this model benefits from borderless printing up to 2 x A4 (21.5x61cm) for professional looking panoramic photos.

The HP Deskjet 6840 features an advanced control panel showing the wireless and networking status of the printer, providing users with valuable information at a glance. An ink level indicator shows how much colour and black ink is remaining, so print cartridges can always be changed in good time, while a 'Print Cancel' button means unwanted print jobs can be cancelled without wasting ink or paper. PictBridge technology incorporated in this printer lets people connect their digital camera directly to the printer's dedicated PictBridge front port and select photos to be printed from the camera's controls, with no need to connect to a PC.

Innovative smart features enhance the HP Deskjet 6840's range of functions. With HP's convenient ink backup mode, users can complete a print job, even in one cartridge runs out - therefore boosting productivity. In addition, the automatic alignment function calibrates new print cartridges without any complication or user involvement. A further smart printing feature, available exclusively when using HP inkjet print cartridges and HP printers, includes proactive alerts to notify users when ink levels are running low. To achieve the best possible finish HP recommends using HP inks, inkjet print cartridges and print media which have been specially formulated to work with the HP Deskjet 6840. The HP Deskjet 6840 is compatible with HP's next generation of inkjet print cartridges which offer increased print speed, without compromising on the quality or fade resistance of the finished print out. This new range of inkjet print cartridges features new ink formulations and when used in conjunction with HP Premium Plus Photo Paper, allows users to print true borderless photos.

The HP Deskjet 6840 comes complete with the HP No. 339 black inkjet print cartridge for laser-quality sharp black text and professional results and the HP No. 344 tri-colour inkjet print cartridge to produce vivid colours for vibrant colour documents, charts and presentations. Both these print cartridges come in different sizes for greater choice.

For ultimate creative control customers can also purchase other print cartridges from the range and swap them in so they have the right set of inks available for their print job. Inkjet print cartridges not in use can be stored in a print cartridge protector (supplied) to ensure the inks don't dry out. When printing photos, users can combine the HP No. 343 / 344 tri-colour inkjet print cartridge along with the HP No. 348 photo inkjet print cartridge for a true-to-life photos with accurate skin tones and a wide range of colours. To print black and white photos customers can swap these cartridges for the HP No. 100 grey photo inkjet print cartridge containing light grey, dark grey and photo black inks.

HP's Premium Plus Photo Paper offers outstanding image quality, a professional weight of 280gsm, and a choice of high-gloss or satin-matt finish for the look and feel of a traditional photo. Printed in combination with HP's next generation inks, photo prints offer exceptional fade resistance, even surpassing that available with HP's previous generation of inkjet print cartridges.
