Linksys, a Division of Cisco Systems, has announced the KiSS DP-600. What’s so interesting about the device is that it’s one of the world’s first DVD players to playback Windows Media Video in High Definition.

The KiSS networkable player is equipped with a built-in WLAN 802.11g connection for cable-free access to an online EPG, a selection of 3000 radio stations, and various other online features on the Internet or content on the home PC.

In addition to Windows Media Video 9 compatibility, the DP-600 offers progressive scan technology that enhances the visual experience, MPEG-4 support, Nero Digital, DivX HD, XviD, MP3, WMA, WMA Pro and Ogg Vorbis playback, advanced user interface, and a photo album feature for digital photo collections. The KiSS DP-600, available by end of Q1, will be the first in a range of new products from Linksys to support Windows Media.

Key features of the drive include playback in Windows Media Video 9 HD, DivX HD, Nero Digital, XviD, MPEG-1, 2 and 4, WMA, WMA Pro, MP3, and Ogg Vorbis, built-in WLAN 802.11g connection for cable-free access to the Internet or home PC, Ethernet 10/100 technology, HDMI connection, online weather forecasts for any continent, country or town, and StockView where you can check and convert currency values. It also supports online games and Video-on-Demand (VoD).
