Grandstream Networks IP Video Phone

This new video phone by Grandstream Networks is powered by Texas Instruments’ programmable DSPs and promises to deliver crisper images and better usability.

The GXV-3000 is based on the SIP standard. It features the latest H.264 real-time video codec, an advanced high resolution camera sensor, and a relatively thin 5.6-inch TFT colour LCD.

The GXV-3000 is optimised for evolving video and imaging standards by Texas Instruments’ TMS320DM643 digital media processor that delivers more performance, spurs faster frame rates and higher resolutions and supplies real-time streaming video with advanced audio and video quality.

‘[The] GXV-3000 IP video phone is the most exciting IP video product Grandstream has developed since the company’s inception, and it is the first of a series of significant video-over-IP offerings the market will see from Grandstream in the future,’ said David Li, chief executive officer, Grandstream.

‘Grandstream pioneered the high quality and affordable voice-over-IP endpoint device market when it introduced its innovative and popular SIP phone and ATA products in 2003. With this significant product release, we are again leaping ahead of competition in video-over-IP products to enable high quality and affordable personal video communications over public Internet.’

The device promises unrivalled sharp picture quality, compelling functionality richness, stylish exterior design, intuitive user friendliness and unprecedented affordability to personal video communications over the Internet. It supports the latest H.264 international real-time video codec standard (base profile) with QVGA or CIF resolution, up to 30fps frame rate, and bit rates between 64Kbit/s and 1Mbit/s.

‘Increasing demands for high-quality digital video, more options at lower system cost and an ever increasing number of formats are driving an evolution in the video IP phone market,’ says Danny Petkevich, C6000 platform product manager, TI.

‘Grandsteam Networks is a market leader in IP phones and we are excited to see that they are entering this emerging market. GXV-3000 is leveraging the programmability of TI’s TMS320DM643, a high-performance digital media processor with two configurable video ports to support multiple video formats, to ensure that the designs of their video phones can be painlessly upgraded with expanded functionality.’

The GXV-3000 features an adjustable VGA resolution camera sensor (with 1-touch ON/OFF switch for privacy control), 5.6-inch TFT colour LCD (2-dimensionally rotatable to allow wide viewing angles), five navigation keys, three line indicators (each of which supports independent SIP account), visual voice/video message indicator, hands-free speakerphone with acoustic echo cancellation, dual 10/100Mbit/s Ethernet ports (switch or router mode configurable), two USB ports, 2.5mm headset jack, and RCA style audio/video output jack to allow simultaneous video output to TV.

In addition, it also supports video call Hold/Transfer/Forward, 3-way conference, audio mute and camera block, video phone book, mirror camera, picture-in-picture, 4x zoom (2x optical plus 2x digital), on-screen-display, auto focus and auto exposure, anti-flickering, video capture and save, configurable screen-saver pictures, downloadable music ringtones, and a graphic user interface.

The GXV-3000 will be available for purchase at a suggested retail price of $295 (£166). Grandstream expects to start volume shipment of GXV-3000 in March 2006. The GXV-3000 package will include a universal switching power supply and a 6-foot. Ethernet cable.
