NEC Computers has launched a lightweight two-spindle laptop with a 14-inch widescreen display.

Targeted at both consumer and commercial customers who are not only conscious of performance and weight but also design, the Versa E3100 should particularly suit road warriors.

Weighing in at only 2.2kg with an integrated optical disk drive and battery, NEC says the Versa E3100 is the lightest 14-inch widescreen machine in its class.

It is powered by the latest Intel Pentium M Processor and features DDR2 dual-channel memory. The Versa E3100 is housed in a Solitaire Blue casing, complemented with an elegant silver keyboard, giving it a cool and stylish appeal.

The 14-inch Super Shine View widescreen LCD display has a resolution of 1280x768 pixels (WXGA), which is well suited to watching DVD movies as well as browsing the Internet. The display also offers a larger viewing space compared with conventional XGA displays. Business users will be able to work on wider spreadsheets and viewing a 2-page document simultaneously (side-by-side) will be easier.

Selected models of Versa E3100 support integrated DVD Super Multi Drive with double-layer recording capability. All models comes bundled with RecordNow! software, offering data storage on-the-go. To safeguard user data and information, the laptop comes preloaded with a Rapid 15-minute Recovery program. The partial recovery allows your data to be retained for later retrieval while it restores the system to the factory setup.

To cater to the demands of mobile users, the Versa E3100 is designed to be an all-in-one light-weight companion with a long battery life of 4 hours. It also comes with wireless LAN, four USB ports, 4-in-1 memory card reader, and infrared port. Depending on the models offered, you have the option of a 40GB, 60GB or 80GB hard disk drive.

The system is available with either Microsoft’s Windows XP Home Edition or Windows XP Professional operating system. For customer looking for value, the Versa E3100 is also available with an Intel Celeron M processor and integrated Combo or DVD drive. More details can be found here.
