Gyration Ultra Professional Optical Suite

Gyration’s Ultra Professional Optical Suite comprises a wireless mouse and keyboard. Designed for aiding business presentations, Gyration’s optical mouse technology makes it the first mouse that you can use in the air as a presentation device, as well as on the desktop as a normal mouse.

The Suite’s optical mouse features Gyration’s patented MicroGyro 100 technology, which uses a gyroscope sensor to accurately sense the motion of your hand or body, so you needn’t be restricted to using the mouse on a hard surface. The design uses electromagnetics to drive and sense a vibrating beam, which the company says allows for very high performance with a low manufacturing cost.

The keyboard and mouse also have integrated radio transmitters that broadcast optical data at 80Hz, which Gyration claims is 60 to 160 per cent higher than other cordless mice. The benefits of a higher data transmission rate should result in smoother tracking, more precise cursor movement and faster response. By comparison, Logitech’s mice use a 50Hz transceiver and Microsoft’s models a 30Hz transceiver. As a result, Logitech and Microsoft devices have a radio range of 1.8 metres, compared to Gyration’s range of 7.6 metres, according to Gyration.

The keyboard has an RF range of up to 30 metres with no line-of-sight limitations. The standard 88-key keypad includes Windows Start and drop-down menu keys, as well as 15 Internet and multimedia shortcut keys. A snap-on keyboard cover is included to protect keys during transport.

Due to the nature of radio technology, the optical mouse and keyboard do not need separate cables attached to your PC (one USB 1.1 RF receiver needs to be attached) and are not restricted by line-of-sight limitations, making them particularly well suited to use in business presentations. The devices use NiMH rechargeable batteries, so you needn’t worry about carrying replacement batteries around with you. Being optical means there are no moving parts to wear out or get dirty, either.

Included with the suite is GyroTools special effects software for Windows, which allows you to add ‘dynamic’ effects to your presentations.
