Fujitsu Redefines Small Document Scanning With fi-60F

Fujitsu's new A6 flatbed scanner promises to revolutionise the scanning of important small documents, such as passports and prescriptions. Not your regular desktop scanner, the fi-60F is designed for scanning small-format documents, such as those used in professional, medical and travel organisations. Weighing less than 1kg and scanning in only a few seconds, the fi-60F offers 24-bit colour and 8-bit greyscale scanning modes, saves scans as TIFFs or JPEGs, ships with TWAIN and ISIS drivers, and hooks up to your computer using USB 2.0. Besides being able to operate the fi-60F with or without the cover, another neat feature is that regardless of the angle to the edge of the scanner at which documents are placed, the fi-60F automatically aligns the resulting scan and matches it to the actual size of the original document - a real time saver.

Pros: Small footprint; colour and greyscale scans; auto-aligning scans
Cons: Niche product; only 600ppi optical resolution

Release: Fujitsu announces the launch of the fi-60F A6 document scanner, specifically designed for small format documents. The fi-60F has been created to speed up data capture in industries where it is necessary to store information from customer documents, e.g. passports at customs and immigration authorities, prescriptions at doctors surgeries or pharmacies and drivers licenses at car rental agencies. Weighing less than 1kg, and scanning in only a few seconds, the tiny fi-60F flatbed scanner is ideal for use on even the smallest desktop.

Incredibly fast, the fi-60F can scan a document in grayscale in just one second (8 Bit/pixel at 200dpi), and can produce colour images (24 Bit/pixel at 200dpi) in less than two seconds. The scanner can also handle photos and images of up to 600dpi. The speed and tiny size of the scanner (145x234x40mm) means that documents can be scanned immediately in the customers' presence. Employees no longer need to leave the reception or cash desk to scan or copy documents, ensuring that the sale point remains manned at all times.

The user can choose to operate the fi-60F with or without the cover. Regardless of the angle to the edge of the scanner at which documents are placed on the A6 sized scanning area, the fi-60F automatically aligns the resulting scan and matches it to the actual size of the original document. The fi-60F scanner is also easily integrated into industry solutions - where it can not only save time, but also take the pain out of compliance.

In 2004 the government introduced amendments to the Asylum and Immigration Act 1996. The new provisions under Section 8 include stricter rules regarding the verification of a jobseeker's identity and make it mandatory for employers to check and retain a copy of one of certain documents including passports, ID cards and UK residence permits. For industries that have a high turnover of temporary staff, such as the hotel and catering industry, a fi-60F scanner linked to a WORM (Write Once Read Many) storage solution provides a simple and space-saving way to capture the information and comply with legislation.
