Nero has updated its Linux CD/DVD recording software. NeroLINUX 2.0.0.2 is a relatively flexible graphical-based application that should help Linux users to burn writable CDs and DVDs in many popular formats.
The software supports all types of internal and external recorders that are supported by the API of the established Nero application for Windows. It features kernel optimisations for both 2.4 and 2.6 kernels, digital audio extraction, FreeDB support, and USB hotplugging, but video-editing capabilities are not yet included.
NeroLINUX uses NeroAPI for low-level operations (burn process), supports hot plug for external USB devices (no application restart requireed), stores and reloads compilations in XML format, and is fully compatible with FreeDB to automatically get disc information over the Internet.
The updated software also supports the new 2.6 IDE driver interface (non SCSI emulation), audio encoding and decoding can be done on-the-fly using external utilities (MPEG-1/2/3 and Ogg), and it can be provided as an RPM or Debian package for easier installation. Supported operating systems include SuSE Linux 8.0 and Red Hat Linux 7.2 or later, Fedora Core 1 to 3, and Debian GNU/Linux 3.0 (with Kernel 2.4 or above).
