Looking for an easy-to-use and secure computer at a low price? If so, you may want to check out this latest offering from The Netherlands. The simPC (Secure Internet Machine) is hardly a computing powerhouse, but it should be adequate for e-mailing, surfing the Internet, writing letters and so on.
There's no bells and whistles here - it doesn't even ship with a CD/DVD drive or monitor - but its compact form factor is about the size of a VHS cassette, it doesn't make any noise, includes a wireless connection, and is 'impenetrable' from viruses, hackers, incomprehensible error messages or other problems thanks to its proprietary operating system and applications.
The simPC is targeted at senior citizens and for people who want a no-hassle additional Internet PC. It promises to be extremely easy-to-use, claims to be the 'safest consumer PC', is problem-free and requires no maintenance, is very energy efficient (30 per cent that of a regular PC), and has a relatively quick start-up time of 45 seconds.
Anyone who has the slightest intention do anything more 'productive' with their computer should avoid this niche offering, but it may suit certain types of newbies quite well - as long as you don't want to install news applications, play offline games, watch DVD Movies, or listen to CDs. We ask you, what else is a PC for?
