BenQ has today announced the new PE8720 home cinema projector. Designed to take the home cinema projector to an elevated level with the industry's highest contrast ratio of 10000:1, the £5999 (ex. VAT) projector features BenQ's proprietary Advanced Continuous Electronic IRIS and Senseye technology, in addition to a whisper-quiet 23dB operating noise for uninterrupted viewing and listening pleasure.
The featured BenQ proprietary Senseye technology enables the DLP-based PE8720 to deliver deeper, clearer, high definition native 16:9 widescreen (WXGA) images with a superior high contrast ratio of 10000:1, claims the company. This is made possible by the embedded Advanced Continuous Electronic IRIS and DarkChip3 DMD.
The BenQ proprietary Advanced Continuous Electronic IRIS claims to increase contrast performance to a cinema-class, ultra-high 10000:1 ratio and also optimises light intensity for bright and dark scenes. The DarkChip3 DMD from Texas Instruments also decreases the scattering of light and significantly boosts image contrast for superior dark scenes.
Also impressive is that that BenQ PE8720 operates at a whisper-quiet 23dB for uninterrupted viewing and listening excellence. This is made possible due to the unique side-exhaust fans and L-shaped inlet tunnels. Operating noise is generally an issue for all projector, with most models having a claime noise level of around 35dB.
BenQ's patented side-exhaust fans lowers the internal ambient temperature, allowing for efficient cooling, by reducing fan RPM (revolutions per minute). To further reduce projector acoustics, BenQ also adopts two L-shaped inlet tunnels equipped with a sound dampening muffler and anti-vibration material in the Color Wheel holder.
Apart from the superior image quality the projector promises, the BenQ PE8720 also claims o be user friendly. At the touch of one button, the BenQ PE8720's smart technology intelligently adjusts colour, lighting settings and Advanced Electronic IRIS for frequently-used home applications. In addition, the BenQ PE8720 also features a customised 6-Color Setting function which offer users a direct, independent 6-color adjustment of primary (RGB) and secondary (CMY) colours. This convenient function lets you change colour preferences without affecting the original colour settings of other colours preferences.
Input terminals include component (BNCx5, RCAx3), S-Video, composite (RCAx1) and HDMI (with HDCP x1). It supports 480i/p, 576i/p, 720p and 1080i HDTV, and has 2-Watt speakers built in. Unfortunately, there's no wired or wireless connectivity options built in, nor are there any security options. The non-interchangeable lens has an electric zoom, focus and shift, and can throw an image size of 50- to 300-inches diagonal from between 1.99- and 16.22m.
