Imaging software company DxO Labs has announced the release of DxO Optics Pro v3.5 in both Standard and Elite Editions.
Designed for digital photographers, the image quality enhancement software features DxO's Optics Engine v2, an update to the company's optical correction engine which more effectively reduces colour fringing, preserves more image area when correcting for geometric distortion, and better preserves image detail, the company says.
The software is born out of exhausting tests of specific camera and lens combinations and is designed to correct inherent flaws in certain cameras and lenses when used together.
The software knows where a certain camera and lens combination has unique and repeatable 'problems' or faults and corrects them to a high degree. It sounds unbelievable, but there are people who have seen it and say it works! The company simply describes DxO Optics Pro v3.5 as 'Digital SLR and lens automatic image quality enhancement software'.
DxO Optics Pro v3.5 incorporates DxO Optics Engine v2, a more powerful edition of DxO Labs' optical correction engine extending the software's capabilities for automatically removing unwanted colour fringes including 'purple fringing'; preserving greater image detail through improvements to DxO's Lens Softness removal capabilities; as well as preserving up to 40 per cent more image area when eliminating geometric distortion.
Other improvements include an enhanced user interface as well as dramatically increased batch processing speed (by up to 100 per cent) on multi-processor computers, according to the company. DxO Optics Pro v3.5 Elite Edition now also supports the new, full-frame, Canon EOS 5D and an initial selection of lenses.
Upgrading to DxO Optics Pro v3.5 is free for registered users of DxO Optics Pro v3.0 Standard or Elite editions. Users of DxO Optics Pro v3.5 continue to benefit from unrestricted access to all DxO Lens Modules for a given set of supported camera bodies.
Optics Pro v3.5 is free to download for registered users of Optics Pro v3 and versions exist for both PC and Mac platforms. The Standard and Elite editions can also be purchased for $149 and $299, respectively, and are available at retailers or through DxO directly at
