I.R.I.S. Mini Business Card Scanner

Belgian-based I.R.I.S. has announced the worldwide availability of the IRISCard mini, a lightweight, portable and relatively comprehensive solution that transforms business cards into a contact database.

In 2003, I.R.I.S. launched the I.R.I.S. Business Card Reader II for PC and, and in 2004, the IBCR II for Mac. Today, the company has released the IRISCard mini (£69.99 ex. VAT), a business card reader that has been completely redesigned, repackaged and is even more simple and faster than its predecessor, according to the company.

It is an hybrid product, compatible with both PC and Mac, which allows you to keep your contacts up to date any place around the world. An ideal tool for those on the move or even companies exhibiting on trade shows, the scanner's portability and capacity to recognise business cards from 54 countries (from North and South America, Eastern and Western Europe, the Baltic countries, Greece, Turkey, Russia, Australia and more) make the IRISCard mini an interesting product.

Apart from the six usual interface languages for the I.R.I.S. products - English, French, Dutch, Italian, Spanish and German - the IRISCard can also be installed in Portuguese and Russian. I.R.I.S. has also released an IRISCard mini Asian, which is able to recognise four Asian languages: Japanese, Korean, Traditional Chinese and Simplified Chinese.

The newly designed hardware is an A8 scanner with a small footprint. It allows you to scan business cards in black-and-white and greyscale up to 600dpi. The bundled software, Cardiris, analyses the information the business cards contain and sends it to the software database's appropriate data fields - company name, name, title, address, e-mail, Web site etc - to create an electronic address book. The contacts can then be exported to your favourite contact manager, including Outlook, Address Book, Pocket-PC, iPod and so on.

Bernard De Fabribeckers, International Sales Director EMEA of I.R.I.S. Group comments this new I.R.I.S. release: 'With the IRISCard mini, our aim is to extend our existing resellers and distributors network. The new packaging, together with the new design, allows us to re-introduce the business card reader and make this tool even more accessible. Through this new approach, we are willing to reach a larger public.

'The fact that it can be used by both PC- and Mac users surely is an important point as well to achieve this aim. It's a smart buy, a must have for anyone who needs to keep his contacts up to date. The I.R.I.S. Business Card Reader II registered record sales and we expect the success of the IRISCard mini to be even greater.'
