D-Link's latest product, the MediaLounge Wireless Music Player, is designed to free your digital music from the confines of your computer. The gizmo lets you stream your entire music library over your standard 802.11b/g wireless or wired network using a pair of standard computer or hi-fi speakers.
Standing a mere 203mm tall, and only 38mm thick (without stand), the DSM-120 ($229/£132) is compact enough to fit on a bookshelf, night stand, or kitchen counter. The tinted glass front of the device radiates with style, so you could even wall mount the device.
Along with the bundled D-Link Media Server Software, the DSM-120 comes with a utility so you can transfer music to the Music Player's optional hard disk drive. You can also use One Touch Copy to transfer music from a USB drive to the internal hard disk drive. The DSM-120 can also connect to Internet radio stations and play live streaming music from around the world.
If you want to store hundreds of hours of music directly on the device, allowing you to enjoy your music even when your PC is turned off, you can further attach a USB flash drive or USB hard disk drive to the DSM-120 and play music directly from the external drive. Want a more permanent option? You can install a 2.5-inch internal hard disk drive and enjoy your music even when your PC is turned off.
The Wireless Music Player provides multiple audio output options including a stereo mini jack, optical audio out, and composite audio. The DSM-120 supports Windows Media Connect and Windows Media Digital Rights Management (WMDRM-10) that allow streaming copy-protected WMA-based music. Along with playing WMA, MP3, and WAV files stored on your computer, the DSM-120 includes an alarm clock and sleep timer.
