Microtek DLP Portable Projector

Microtek is now shipping its CX6 XGA DLP projector. The 2000 ANSI lumens brightness should satisfy the most rigorous presentation needs, as well as meet the stringent display demands of video enthusiasts. At 3.5kg, the CX6 is also portable enough to go anywhere.

The 2000 lumens brightness promises crisp, clear imaging for presentations, even in less-than-optimal lighting conditions (don't they all say that? - Ed!), and the CX6’s high 2000:1 contrast ratio should help to ensure that both computer and video are rendered in high detail, colour and clarity. Unfortunately, it only has a native resolution of 1024x768 pixels.

Connections on the CX6 are individually marked, adhering to the industry’s ‘plug and project’ standard for easy set-up. Inputs for video or graphics include DVI for direct digital connection, DVI-to-VGA adapter for auto-sensing analogue PC connection, component video, S-Video and composite video inputs.

Add to these automatic de-interlacing and built-in 2:3 film detection, and the CX6 should produce smooth video. A video monitor loop-through output is provided for multiple display applications and the projector’s built-in audio is supported via composite RCA and a stereo mini jack. An RS-232 jack is provided for service and factory firmware updates.

Microtek’s CX6 incorporates the latest DLP digital processing technology from Texas Instruments. DLP technology uses an optical semiconductor to manipulate light digitally. DLP technology is the only solution that can create a direct digital connection between the graphic or video source and the display that eliminates D/A and A/D conversions - thus optimising image fidelity, claims the company.

The CX6 comes with a remote control that incorporates a laser pointer. The remote also offers access to a computer or mouse capabilities from anywhere in the room via a USB connection. The CX6 projector also comes with Kensington’s MicroSaver Security System, and a convenient customizable Power Save option that allows you to automatically extend the usable lamp life.

The CX6 can be installed in a variety of ways, including traditional tabletop, rear-projection and ceiling-mount. Digital keystone correction of up to +/- 15 per cent remedies distortion caused by less-than-ideal projection angles and maintains correct aspect ratio for consistent video quality.

The projector is now available at Microtek’s online store for $999 (£576). It comes with a free carrying case and a one-year product/90-day lamp warranty.
