RIM BlackBerry 8700g

T-Mobile UK and Research In Motion (RIM) have announced an expansion of T-Mobile’s portfolio of BlackBerry devices with the introduction of the BlackBerry 8700g. The device is expected to be available from T-Mobile throughout the UK from early February.

The BlackBerry 8700g, developed and manufactured by RIM, has a full QWERTY keyboard in a new, sleek, lightweight design. Yet it combine all the same features of the traditional BlackBerry devices including e-mail on the go and SMS, but sports an improved design and a bigger colour screen.

In addition to standard BlackBerry functionality including support for ‘push’ e-mail, phone, text messaging, browser, organiser and corporate data applications, the business-friendly BlackBerry 8700g was completely re-engineered to boost performance and features an Intel processor as well as 64MB flash memory and 16MB SRAM. The device also promises faster Web browsing, attachment viewing and application performance.

The device sports a landscape-ready QVGA (320x240 pixels) LCD display that supports more than 65,000 colours. The screen promises excellent indoor and outdoor readability by featuring an intelligent light sensing technology that automatically adjusts both the LCD and keyboard lighting to provide an optimised view in outdoor, indoor and dark environments. The device also features Bluetooth support for hands-free use with headsets and car kits, as well as a speakerphone.

For corporate customers, BlackBerry Enterprise Server software, tightly integrates with Microsoft’s Exchange, IBM’s Lotus Domino and Novell’s GroupWise and works with existing enterprise systems to enable secure, push-based wireless access to email and other corporate data.

For individuals and smaller businesses, BlackBerry Internet Service allows users to access up to ten corporate and/or personal e-mail accounts (including Microsoft Exchange, IBM Lotus Domino and popular ISP e-mail accounts) from a single device.

The recommended retail price of the BlackBerry 8700g from T-Mobile UK is £189. From February the device will be available for just £79.99 with an 18-month contract (Relax 200), which includes 12 months half price line rental.
