Not quite the pillow we were expecting, but then why would luggage specialist Samsonite make a bedtime accessory?

By applying memory foam to computer protection, Samsonite says it’s paving the way for a new era of laptop carriers and messenger bags designed for style-conscious techies and business travellers on-the-go. Who are we to argue?.

This innovative concept is available through Samsonite’s new line which was unveiled at The Consumer Electronics Show in January 2006. Available in three distinct styles - hardshell case, top loading case, and a 2-in-1 messenger bag, there should be a Laptop Pillow style to meet any computer users travel needs.

By applying memory foam, known for helping weary travellers get a good night sleep, Samsonite has taken consumer-oriented approach to new product development. In a time where travellers can’t leave their home or office without a mobile phone, PDA and laptop, Samsonite is ~~looking to cash in big time~~ making a statement by creating luggage and technology accessories for the mobile office.

Retailing at $80 (£44.99), the Hardshell EVA Laptop Pillow is molded out of EVA with 420D 3-D weave fabric that has been laminated for extra protection. With a 1.5-inch thick memory foam cushion to protect your personal computer and zips to provide compression holding it securely in place, this bag claims to be nearly indestructible.

The 2-in-1 Messenger Bag, which costs $200 (£112), is made of durable 420D nylon with dimpled vinyl accents. With plenty of space for all of technology gadgets, the bag features hard-shell EVA organiser panels to protect mobile phones, MP3 players and PDAs as well as the signature removable laptop sleeve made of protective memory foam. In addition, the bag offers ample storage space and pockets for personal belongings, files and laptop and a comfortable gel padded shoulder strap for easy carrying.

The top loading LP450 ($100/£56) is a soft shell model is made of 3-D weave 420-D nylon with dimpled vinyl accents. With a 1.5-inch thick memory foam cushion and zips to hold the laptop in place, this bag claims to provide an unparalleled level of protection. Front pockets and back slash pockets provide ample room for office supplies, computer wires and a copy of the newspaper or magazines.
