VIA EPIA Mini-ITX Puts The Spice In ChiliBox

VIA Technologies has released an easy-to-use SOHO server appliance that enables plug’n’play business networking with advanced security strengthened by VIA’s PadLock Security Engine.

VIA’s EPIA Mini-ITX mainboards have been selected by Chili Systems, a US-based network solutions provider to power the all-in-one SOHO network server appliance, the ChiliBox, with functionality secured through the military-grade VIA PadLock Security Engine.

The ChiliBox will be demonstrated at CeBIT 2006, Hanover, Germany, later this month. Targeted at SOHO business owners seeking the functionality of an IT department without the associated costs, the ChiliBox combines easy-to-use plug’n’play’ operation of a licence-free firewall, central file storage, professional e-mail services, data backup, remote file access and ubiquitous platform compatibility.

The extensive feature set, robust security, hassle-free operation and small footprint made possible through the rich integration and small form factor of VIA’s EPIA PD10000 Mini-ITX mainboard enables small businesses to easily build their own network.

Employing the latest security standards, the ChiliBox uses military-grade protection offered by VIA’s PadLock Security Engine. With its real-time AES encryption engine and quantum based random number generators, the VIA PadLock Security Engine, enables developers to seamlessly offload the computational process involved in complex encryption algorithms freeing processor load to handle more client requests faster.

‘The ChiliBox is textbook example of how the unique advantages of the VIA platform can benefit customers in the delivery of secure services with an unprecedented low total cost of ownership,’ said Richard Brown, Vice President of Corporate Marketing, VIA Technologies. ‘We see tremendous growth and opportunity in the server appliance market and the ChiliBox is setting new standards for advanced plug’n’play server appliances.’

‘Using VIA was a natural choice for us. No other platform in the market could offer the small form factor, cool operation, rich feature set and robust security that the VIA EPIA range of mainboards could give,’ said Pedro Mata, President, Chili Systems. ‘The VIA EPIA Mini-ITX mainboard enabled us to give our customers what they want, a secure feature packed easy-to-use product that let them focus on what they do best; running their small business.’

The ChiliBox network server appliance (CSI-CB120) is available throughout the United States, Canada, Europe and South Asia at a MSRP of $499 (£285).
