Linksys, a division of Cisco Systems, has announced the Compact Wireless-G Broadband router (WRT54GC) to its army of networking products.
The device has been designed to provide home and mobile users with the flexibility to provide both seamless wireless access and connectivity for wired Ethernet devices in a small compact design.
The Compact Wireless-G Router is three devices in one: Wireless Access Point that enables users to connect via Wireless-G (802.11g) or Wireless-B (802.11b), built in 4-port full-duplex 10/100 switch to connect wired Ethernet devices to the network, and a router which allows users to securely share a network with high-speed cable or DSL Internet connection.
Linksys Compact Wireless-G Broadband Router should be a neat router for those who have limited space or want something small and compact to have at their workstation or take with them on the road.
It comes with a built-in antenna, but you can increase the routers wireless range by connecting an optional high gain antenna (such as Linksys High Gain Antenna for SMA Connectors - HGA7S), to the included pop-up SMA connector.
Security comes in the way of Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA/WPA2 Personal), wireless MAC address filtering, and SPI firewall, while VPN pass-through is also supported. The Linksys Compact Wireless-G Broadband Router is immediately available through major distributors, value-added resellers and business solution providers for around $79 (£45).
