ECS H70 Ultra-Mobile PC

Somewhere in the galleries of Hannover, Germany, Elitegroup Computer Systems (ECS) announced its entry into quickly growing market of ‘anywhere’ computing productivity and entertainment solutions with the launch of its simply smart H70 tablet.

Powered by a choice of either the premium performance Intel Pentium M ULV 1GHZ FSB 400MHZ with a 2MB L2 on-die cache or Intel’s value Celeron M ULV 900MHZ, FSB 400MHZ processor with a 512 KB L2 on-die cache, the ECS H70 UMPC (Ultra-Mobile PC) pack in some decent features designed to enrich the mobile lifestyle.

The H70’s 7-inch WVGA TFT LCD touchscreen display should deliver an easy-on-the-eyes 800x480-pixel resolution, while ECS’ simply smart slip proof design also adds security to mobility. The screen doubles as an input device, offering natural handwritten input as well as easy touchscreen operation by means of an included stylus.

Despite its light, slender form, (the H70 is a lithe 226x144x23mm and weighs in at 830g) the tablet is packed full of well thought out work and play features. It provides both onboard Bluetooth and Wi-Fi along with ‘grab and go’ docking for maximum connectivity. It also comes with a 1.3-Megapixel digital camera, built-in speakers and microphone, high definition audio codec and integrated 3-in-1 memory card reader.

Based on Intel’s Centrino mobile platform, the ECS H70 tablet combines connectivity with state-of-the-art power saving technology. Its ultra-low voltage CPU should provide good performance and long battery life while eliminating overheating to deliver a comfortable handheld computing experience.

DDR2 memory technology more than doubles the effective data rate of the frontside bus delivering 30 per cent better performance than DDR1 memory while consuming less power and creating less heat even though it operates at a higher transfer rate. The ECS H70 operates out of its docking station for upwards of 2 hours, depending, of course, on its hardware and software configuration.

The H70 will be available in selected markets in Q2 2006.
