Freecom External Aluminium HDD

German-Dutch storage specialist Freecom Technologies has presented a new product.

The Freecom Hard Drive (120x40x200mm, 750g) for PC and Mac is the company’s first external hard disk drive (HDD) to be available in the minimalistic aluminium housing with LED display and new packaging.

This high-quality and cost-effective 3.5-inch data medium is equipped with passive cooling, and therefore dispenses without a fan. The new Freecom product, which will initially be available with capacities of 80, 160 and 250GB, is therefore particularly quiet in operation, and therefore ideally suitable for use in the home.

No less convincing are the inner qualities of this handy little hard disk. Rotating at a speed of 7200rpm (2MB buffer), the pre-formatted Freecom Hard Drive is supplied complete with the Freecom Media Suite software, enabling the encryption of data (256-bit Advanced Encryption Standard) and synchronisation by means of the backup function.

The Media Suite also offers an autorun facility for convenient start of individual applications and programs. Connection takes the form of a USB 2.0 interface, or optionally USB 1.1. Similar to all Freecom products, the new Hard Drive complies fully with the CE standard (to EMC Directive).

In the course of 2006, Freecom will be introducing further products to the identical product design, such as mobile HDDs, optical drives, and for the first time an ultra-compact data device with a capacity in the terabyte range.
