Two new digital audio players from JVC offer a choice of colours and allow direct recording without the need for a PC. Whoopie! The new JVC XA-F57 and XA-F107 are flash memory players with 512MB and 1GB of memory, respectively.
The 512MB XA-F57 is available in white, pink or silver, while the 1GB XA-F107 is offered in grey, pink or black. Both players support MP3, WMA and WMA-DRM files. They connect to a PC using the players USB 2.0 port, and show up as a USB mass storage device, making file transfer a simple drag-and-drop procedure.
For convenience in transferring music from other sources, both new JVC players feature direct recording. Using the players analogue input, CD, radio or tape sources are converted to MP3 files by the player, so theres no need for a computer.
Also unique are the players earbud headphones.
The headphone cord doubles as a lanyard so the player can be worn around the neck. A slide at the earbud end of the cord keeps the players weight on your neck and off the earbuds, so that the earbuds rest comfortably in your ears.
Other features include a 4-line dot matrix backlit LCD, built-in rechargeable battery that is recharged via a computers USB port, and five preset EQ settings plus one user-tailored EQ setting. To deliver top-quality sound, both players use an 18-bit digital-to-analogue converter and the included earbud headphones feature neodymium drivers.
JVCs new digital audio players will be available later this month. The XA-F57 will sell for about $99 (£56), while the XA-F107 will sell for about $149 (£85).
