nVidia, the market-leader in programmable graphics processor technologies, has today unveiled the GeForce Go 7900 series of graphics processing units (GPUs).
The two new GPUs are the GeForce Go 7900 GTX, the new flagship GPU which delivers XHD graphics performance, and GeForce Go 7900 GS, which enables superior gaming performance in slimmer performance laptops.
The GeForce Go 7900 GTX features the same specifications as its desktop counterpart, a continuing trend in high-end GPUs from nVidia. The only difference will be clock speeds, down to 500/600MHz (Core/Memory) from 650/800MHz on the desktop. Clocks will vary by manufacturers, but overall they will be lower to reduce heat output.
At XHD screen resolutions of 1680x1050 and 1920x1200 pixels, games have up to 65 per cent more image detail than games viewed on common 1024x768 laptop screens. These powerful GPUs are designed to blaze through games at extreme HD resolutions with state-of-the-art 3D graphics effects. The result should be a greatly enhanced level of realism and immersion for gamers on the go.
The new GeForce Go 7900 series of GPUs, with higher performance per watt efficiency, raise the performance bar to new heights. The GeForce Go 7900 features support for advanced technologies that enhance the mobile computing experience, including support for DirectX 9.0 Shader Model 3.0 and film quality high dynamic range (HDR) lighting.
H.264 hardware accelerated support nVidias PureVideo technology - the combination of HD video processors and software delivers a HD home-theatre quality video experience to the PC.
nVidias PowerMizer technology enables the dramatic performance enhancements in the same power budget as the previous generation of nVidia mobile GPUs, claims the company. The reduced power consumption and less heat generation result in cooler and smaller laptops with increased battery life.
The GeForce Go 7900 are now available for order from industry leading laptop partners such as Dell and Toshiba. Other partners that plan to ship soon include ABS, CyberPower, Falcon Northwest, Gateway, Hypersonic, iBuyPower, Velocity Micro, Vicious PC, and Voodoo PC in North America, as well as AJP, Evesham, Gericom, Multirama, Plaisio, and XS2 in Europe.
Dell has already announced a laptop based on the new GPUs.
