Why Mac Users Choose Macs Over PCs

A new survey conducted by Konica Minolta Printing Solutions at MacExpo 2006 has found that Mac users rarely have problems with the day to day workings of the printers they use, and do not see the cost of ink as a problem.

The survey of 100 Mac users, found that almost half of those surveyed said they chose Macs because they are easier to use. Only 1 per cent of Mac users said that cost of ink was an issue, and only 2 per cent said they had problems with paper jams.

The survey also offers some insight over why people choose Macs over PCs. When asked why they had chosen to use a Mac over a PC, almost half (48 per cent) said that it was because Macs were ‘easier to use,’ and almost a third (32 per cent) claimed that it was due to Macs being ‘more secure, with fewer viruses’. 4 per cent said they preferred Macs because they revelled in their ‘independence of Bill Gates’.

When discussing the type of printer used, a surprising 62 per cent of the Mac users surveyed said they used an inkjet printer. Additional findings from the survey include that just over half (53 per cent) of workplaces run both Mac and Windows operating systems and that while a third (33 per cent) of respondents’ work environments were exclusively Mac-based, only 8 per cent were exclusively Windows-based.

Mac users are dedicated to their choice of hardware, with 67 per cent using Macs both at home and for business. The rest were divided between 15 per cent who used Macs at home only and 17 per cent who use Macs only at work.

Mark Lloyd, Managing Director UK & Ireland, Konica Minolta Printing Solutions, which has a support line for Mac users, said: “This survey offered us some great insight into the Mac user community, which is an important part of our market. I was surprised to hear how many Mac users rely on inkjets, seeing as it costs many times more to print a colour document using an inkjet than it does with a colour laser
printer.”
