Sony Europe's IT Peripherals division has announced the availability of a free Blu-ray movie player software update for its BWU-100A Blu-ray Disc (BD) drive retail kit for PCs.
The CyberLink PowerDVD software upgrade is available from the Sony Storage Web site, accompanied by multi-language download instructions, and enables the playback of commercial Blu-ray movies (BD-ROMs), as well as personally created Blu-ray content.
Launched in September 2006, the Sony BWU-100A drive is a true multi-format drive supporting all kinds of Blu-ray, DVD and CD discs and offering state-of-the-art performance for each format. The ideal upgrade option for any computer - including media centre PCs - it includes the CyberLink BD Solution software bundle which provides a complete studio of applications for capturing, authoring, editing and burning high-definition content, such as 1080i HD footage from a HDV camcorder.
"With backward compatibility with all major DVD and CD formats, the BWU-100A is already one of the most fully-featured drives on the market. With the addition of Blu-ray movie playback, customers have another reason to upgrade their PC drive and begin enjoying the visual benefits of HD content," said Christoph Cyrol, Product Marketing Manager in Sony Europe's IT Peripherals division.
The BWU-100A is available on the Internet and in major retailers at an estimated retail price of £599 (inc. VAT).
