Microsoft has released Small Business Server 2003 to manufacturing. Based on new features that attempt to simplify the deployment process, ongoing management and use of server technology, the fourth-generation version of the software is designed to help small businesses protect their data and improve their connections with customers. The release also marks the latest attempt by Microsoft to boost the uptake of servers in small businesses.
A member of Microsoft's Windows Server family, Small Business Server 2003 is an integrated server solution specifically designed to meet the needs of small businesses. It should particularly suit companies that don't have IT administrators supporting their business. The software's key features allow you to automatically protect your business information by centralising disparate information, backup data regularly and manage customer communications using Outlook 2003 and Exchange Server 2003. It also offers a server-based solution for Internet, e-mail, print, fax and database collaboration.
Small Business Server 2003 is available in two editions: standard and premium. The standard edition (£399) contains Windows Server 2003 and Exchange Server 2003 technologies, while the premium edition (£999) adds SQL Server 2000 and Microsoft's Internet Security and Acceleration Server (ISA Server) technologies. Microsoft requires small businesses to purchase one client licence for each person who uses the software or for each computer on which the software is installed, whichever number is lower. Small Business Server 2003 now supports a network of up to 75 clients, increased from 50 users.
