NEC Diamond Pro 930SB

The Diamond Pro 930SB flat screen CRT monitor features Mitsubishi’s SuperBright Diamondtron CRT technology, which doubles the brightness level of the CRT with a simple touch of a button. This functionality promises to maintain the crispness of images for clarity-conscious applications such as graphics, animation and video, which is ideal for creative professionals.

The 19in. (18in. viewable) monitor measures 44.2 x 44.7 x 44.2in. and weighs 23.81kg. It’s available in a black or beige casing. The totally flat aperture grille CRT display offers a 0.24mm grille pitch and supports resolutions up to 1,920 x 1,440@73Hz. Mitsubishi, however, recommends an optimal resolution of 1,280 x 1,024@85Hz.

Additional features of the screen include SuperBright controls (picture mode, movie mode), On-Screen Manager (OSM), OptiClear software, six menu languages, factory reset, sizing and positioning, colour temperature, pincushion, tilt, rotation, trapezoid, parallelogram, moiré cancellation, convergence control, degauss, contrast, brightness, focus adjustments and AccuColor controls.

However, there’s no USB hub and there's just a single 15-pin D-Sub VGA connector - digital inputs are not supported. Two power saving modes are present, including IPM (Intelligent Power Manager) System and EPA Energy Star.

Its NaViSet software (available by download) allows you to adjust the screen settings using your mouse and keyboard. On-screen animated graphics and test patterns help guide you through the adjustments. NaViSet Administrator software (available upon request) contains Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) for remote control and diagnostics maintenance, allowing IT support staff remote access to the monitor and its settings without disrupting the user.

These remote diagnostics and control capabilities of the Display Data Channel (DDC/CI) permit control commands to be sent directly to the monitor by the local system or remotely over an existing LAN by an administrator. For this functionality to work, users must have a DDC/CI-compatible graphics card and be running Windows 2000 or XP.

Graphics professionals should be interested in the optional SpectraView Colour Calibration Solution. This is a detachable hood and calibration software that helps you to achieve precise colour calibration using a tri-stimulus colorimeter for making on-screen colour measurements. Adjustments are made to RGB gains, which should result in better luminance and black colours.
