Innovation of the Month

Epson's new AcuLaser C2600 series is unique in that it allows you to switch between mono or colour printing by simply changing the colour toner cartridges. Part of Epson's key strategy to increase its market share in the business workspace, the AcuLaser C2600 series is relatively fast too, offering print speeds of up to 30ppm in mono and 7.5ppm in colour. Shipping as standard with a 350MHz processor and 64MB RAM (512MB maximum), the printer also has a relatively large paper capacity of 650 sheets as standard (expandable up to 1150 sheets), backlit LCD, and Hi-Speed USB, parallel and network connectivity as standard. The major benefit of the 'convertible' design is that it allows organisations to purchase a monochrome printer that can be used to print colour as and when needed. The design also allows black-and-white prints to continue processing even when a colour toner is empty. If you don't need colour, the AcuLaser 2600 N (£379 ex. VAT) is a new monochrome-only model.

Pros: Convertible design lets you add or remove colour toner
Cons: No built-in wireless technology or secure printing options

Release: Launched yesterday, Epson announced a new laser printer series that allow business users to upgrade from black and white to colour or vice-versa, as and when the need arises. Comprising of the Epson AcuLaser 2600N and the Epson AcuLaser C2600N, the products provide users with a unique, 'future proof' solution that removes the need to buy a colour laser printer later.

The Epson AcuLaser 2600N is a mono laser printer that can function as a pure mono printer for every day print jobs. A unique print engine allows users to upgrade to colour as they need to, allowing them to print vibrant, high quality documents by simply adding colour toner cartridges. Furthermore, when users run out of colour toner, they can still continue to print in black and white.

Designed to be cost-effective to run without compromising quality, the Epson AcuLaser 2600N allows users to print in colour immediately after adding colour toners. The four-cycle print engine produces immaculate prints every time, so there are no traces of black toner on colour prints or vice-versa.

The Epson AcuLaser 2600 Series boasts many features to make it the laser printer of choice for demanding users. The Epson AcuLaser 2600 Series can print an impressive 30ppm, and prints the first page out in just over 9 seconds in black and white – faster than many monochrome only laser printers. Furthermore, with a standard paper capacity of 650 sheets of paper, the AcuLaser 2600N has the highest standard paper capacity in its category. For large print jobs that need to be completed without interruption, the paper capacity can be increased to 1150 sheets.

Flexibility is key with the AcuLaser 2600 series. These printers can hold a combination of colour and black toner cartridges simultaneously, allowing users to print in black and white in situations when colour toner has run out. When holding 1 black toner cartridge, or 1 black toner cartridge and 3 colour cartridges, users can print up to 5000 pages. When holding 4 black toner cartridges, the printing capacity can be increased to up to 20,000 pages in black and white before needing to replace the toner cartridge.

Both models are easy to use, making them the ideal choice for novice users and organisations with small or outsourced IT support staff. A large LCD panel provides detailed, intuitive step-by-step instructions, whilst a driver user interface helps the user set the settings for the best quality output.

Jordi Castillo, European Product Manager for laser printers: 'Our innovative AcuLaser 2600 Series provides a future proof and cost-effective solution.' With the AcuLaser 2600N, you get a high performance mono laser printer, and a highly flexible device. You will be able to upgrade to colour if your business needs it in the future. Business users can meet their colour printing needs and upgrade to colour in a matter of minutes simply by adding colour toner cartridges.
