Connect Spot Media and MCS launch The Mike Read Pop Quiz

Connect Spot Media, the web design and online delivery specialists and MCS, the music copyright solutions provider, today announced the launch of The Mike Read Pop Quiz, a version of the stylish pop quiz that has been designed and written by Connect Spot Media for games consoles. The questions have all been provided by broadcaster and music authority Mike Read, a household name in Britain for twenty five years. The game will challenge people's music knowledge across five decades.

The Mike Read Pop Quiz will be available in selected Spirit Group venues on Gamestec gaming consoles at launch on December 13th 2005. Spirit Group is one of the UK's leading managed pub companies. The game will progressively be made available nationwide at 5,000 Gamestec customer venues on Gamesnet Games terminals. Gamestec Leisure is the UK's leading national operator of gaming and amusement technology. The game's questions are based on groups, solo artists or music general knowledge. Players are given three alternative answers, one of which has to be chosen within a set time. Typically, three correct answers out of five will buy bonus points and move players up a level on the machine, earning them - after a certain round has been reached - cash prizes from £1 upwards (which they can choose to bank or not). Prizes increase in amount as players successfully negotiate more rounds (including bonus 'picture reveal' rounds), progressing to a £20 jackpot prize when ten (non-bonus) rounds have been successfully negotiated.

Mike Read added: "I'm thrilled that, thanks to the combined efforts of MCS, Connect Spot Media and Gamestec, this has come to fruition in such a professional and exciting manner. I'm also thrilled that we're all committed to developing the game across several other platforms in an ongoing partnership."

Guy Fletcher, MCS Director commented: "We are delighted to enter into this joint-venture with Mike who we know well both professionally and personally. When it was on BBC, Mike's Pop Quiz was huge, and the format is timeless. New technology gives us the opportunity to re-launch Pop Quiz in a number of formats and the first of these is the pub gaming version announced today."

Mark Carter, Connect Spot Group co-founder said: "Connect Spot Media is excited to work with Mike Read and MCS to develop the Mike Read Pop Quiz. We believe the quiz will challenge people's music knowledge and be a great way of bringing the pop quiz to the latest platforms. The game will soon be available on-line as well as hand held games consoles, PDAs and mobile phones. "
