SEAGATE AND SECUDE DEMONSTRATE NEW CLASS OF NOTEBOOK PC SECURITY AT CEBIT 2006 |
|
Seagate Technology (NYSE:STX), the worlds leading hard drive maker, and SECUDE IT Security GmbH, a leading provider of IT security solutions, are joining forces at CeBIT 2006, March 9-15, to demonstrate a solution that combines the highest level of protection against unauthorized access to information stored on lost or stolen notebook PCs with a software infrastructure that gives organizations an easy way to manage notebook security.
The joint CeBIT demonstration at SECUDEs booth, E38 in Hall 7, features the Seagate Momentus 5400 FDE notebook hard drive, a 5400-RPM model that uses hardware-based Full Disc Encryption (FDE) to provide the highest levels of data security, and SECUDEs TiDoCoMi access management technology. TiDoCoMi provides the management capabilities that organizations need to cost-effectively protect encryption keys and passwords while enabling all known single and multifactor authentication techniques.
Privacy regulations such as the European Union Data Protection Directive (DPD), the U.S. Health Insurance Portability & Accountability Act (HIPAA) and the U.S. Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act are increasing the need for protection of data on mobile devices. The TiDoCoMi access management software from SECUDE in conjunction with the Momentus 5400 FDE drive from Seagate delivers a solution designed to provide robust notebook security for customers ranging from individual users to large enterprises.
Momentus 5400 FDE Delivering Strong Encryption for Notebook PC data
The Momentus 5400 FDE hard drive automatically encrypts all its data, not just selected files or partitions, to simplify the protection of information stored on notebook computers. The drives hardware-based full disc encryption delivers significantly stronger protection against hacking and tampering than traditional encryption approaches by securely performing all cryptographic operations and key management within the drive.
Unlike alternatives, Momentus FDE delivers full inline-speed encryption to minimize any performance impacts to the system, allows all drive data to be instantly erased for fast system or hard drive redeployments, and streamlines disc initialization and configuration.
Security solutions that combine hardware encryption and a highly automated software infrastructure that impose tight controls on user access and simplify key management are essential to deploying secure notebooks across enterprises, said Karl Chicca, Seagate senior vice president and general manager, Personal Storage. Seagate is teaming with leading IT security software specialists such as SECUDE to deliver robust protection available for notebook PC data.
TiDoCoMi Simplified Deployments, Additional Protection for Secure Notebooks
TiDoCoMi offers a seamless bridge between hardware-based data protection and total IT security. The software reduces total cost of ownership and simplifies the deployment of secure notebook computers by making it easy to add smart cards, dongles, biometrics and other pre-boot authentication devices and providing advanced key management capabilities.
TiDoCoMi allows system administrators to back up passwords, certificates and other digital identities to protect against their loss, which enables fast, easy disposal or redeployment of hard drives and notebook computers. For strong enterprise notebook security scalable to thousands of users, TiDoCoMi provides seamless operating system protection by authenticating users prior to boot up and a number of pre-boot tools that require authentication to enable full disc encryption and key management. It also protects against unauthorized user access when new operating systems are loaded on Seagates Momentus 5400 FDE drives.
Our technology has demonstrated the fullest functionality of encryption with all of Seagates FDE solutions, said Dr. Heiner Kromer, SECUDEs chief executive officer. We are proud to offer a solution developed from SECUDEs many years of experience delivering best-in-class notebook security solutions including software-based full disk encryption.
SAP is very pleased to see Seagate working closely with SECUDE to deliver innovative, best-in-class notebook security solutions, including full disk encryption, said Dr. Sachar Paulus, chief security officer, SAP AG. This is a step toward true mobile security. The number of SAP users taking advantage of SAPs mobile solutions is growing rapidly and SAP strongly recommends that all our clients protect critical data on mobile devices.
