JBoss®, Inc., the Professional Open Source company, today announced the release of JBoss jBPM 3.1, the company's powerful Java-based business process management (BPM) system. A core piece of the JBoss Enterprise Middleware Suite (JEMS(tm)), JBoss jBPM 3.1 adds multi-process language support as well as integration with JBoss Seam, the company's new framework for building Enterprise Java applications. JBoss jBPM 3.1 is one of three core products announced today that together bolster JEMS as the leading open source platform for service-oriented architecture (SOA) and move JEMS further into the high-end market.

JBoss jBPM enables enterprise Java and SOA programmers to create business process and workflow applications, business process orchestration, and web application page flows from a single, flexible and scalable process engine. This latest release tightly integrates with JBoss Seam, enabling programmers to develop complex process driven applications and diagram user interactions with greater ease than ever.

JBoss jBPM 3.1 is a pluggable, embeddable architecture which makes it easy for enterprises to organise interactions between their applications and services. New features include:

* Simplified programming model - JBoss jBPM's process-oriented programming model combines the best of Java and declarative programming techniques. This means developers can structure their software around easy to understand process graphs that allow executives and developers to speak the same language - facilitating a more agile implementation of the processes required by enterprises.

* Flexible architecture - Because the core BPM engine is separated from its process language environments, it can be embedded or plugged into any other application. This allows developers to extend or customise business processes at any level they choose.

* Graph-oriented programming - JBoss jBPM is built on a graph-oriented programming model, which is a simple and solid foundation for developing and deploying graph-oriented process languages. The graph-oriented programming foundation supports multiple process languages optimised for different environments such as web services and Java and is a key differentiator.

* Multi-language support - JBoss jBPM supports the Business Process Execution Language (BPEL) for business process orchestration of web services. JBoss jBPM also supports jBPM Process Definition Language (jPDL), a Java-based process-oriented programming model that brings workflow and BPM to the Java development environment. Both enable the business user to modify or create new business process workflows in a process language optimised for the business problem and IT environment at hand.

* Visual Process Designer - The JBoss jBPM Visual Process Designer now supports all process nodes in jPDL making the visual development environment more powerful for business process designers.

* Integration with JBoss Seam - The JBoss Seam application framework supports jPDL as its business process language, making it easier for developers to write applications with complex workflows, web application page flows and user interactions. By using JBoss jBPM with JBoss Seam, advanced and intuitive web application page flows can be developed without requiring expensive BPM or workflow products that are not integrated into an easy to use programming model such as JBoss Seam.

* Asynchronous process continuation - Presents developers with greater control over how and when business processes are executed. This results in greater flexibility and more ability to handle business process conditions efficiently.
