Pinnacle Systems MyMP3Pro 5.0

MyMP3Pro 5.0 is ideal if you're after a music jukebox solution that offers high-quality MP3 and MP3 Pro encoding with professional-level audio editing, special effects and CD/DVD burning capabilities. It's likely be to an overview for most users, but will satisfy those looking to create custom playlists and add special effects to tracks, fade from song to song, and add custom EQ processing for different speaker or headphone setups. It comes with CD and DVD authoring tools, too, as well as support for Internet radio.

Pros: Powerful effects; high-quality audio tools
Cons: Unintuitive; overkill for most users; minimal online features

Released in partnership with Steinberg, a company renowned for its professional audio applications, Pinnacle Systems' MyMP3Pro 5.0 is a powerful and feature-rich audio jukebox that will appeal to those more interested in high-quality audio encoding and playback than fancy online features. Unlike free music jukebox software, such as Windows Media Player, MusicMatch Jukebox and Apple's iTunes, MyMP3Pro 5.0 focusses purely on providing an offline solution for ripping, managing and playing audio files. It does, however, offer support for Internet radio and online databases for downloading track and album titles.

MyMP3Pro lets you encode, edit, mix, alter, reorder and transfer your music to a CD, DVD or a portable digital audio player. The software uses the Fraunhofer MP3 encoder, which is one of the highest-quality MP3 and MP3 Pro encoding engines available. Audio enthusiasts will also appreciate the software's high-end audio editing features that let you apply special effects to tracks, fade from song to song, and add custom EQ processing for different speaker or headphone setups. There's even an integrated surround-sound utility that lets you optimise the positioning of your 2- or 4-speaker setup, and waveform editing tools that allow you to adjust volume, phase, panning and dynamics.

Version 5.0 now includes full DVD support, allowing you to backup to DVD discs and create DVDs in DVD-Video format (with menus), a DJ effects console that includes a BPM (beats-per-minute) counter, network support using TCP/IP, drag-and-drop skin support, and an integrated Web browser. You can now also send audio tracks via e-mail from within the software and create tags from files names. Tagging support has been enhanced and Pinnacle Systems has also added an update link, allowing you to check for software updates quickly and easily.

Similar to version 4.0, MyMP3Pro includes Get It On CD 3.1 for authoring both audio and data CDs, making backups of data and creating CD labels. Once sold as a separate application, Get It On CD 3.1 is a useful application that adds greatly to the value of MyMP3Pro.
