Be Unlimited Goes Live With 24Mbit/s Broadband

Be, one of the UK's newest broadband provider, is making history today as it invite Londoners to pilot their new 24Mbit/s broadband service. In addition to experiencing speeds of up to 24Mbit/s downstream and 1Mbit/s upstream - the fastest in the UK - pilot members will pay nothing until October 2005.

Each member will also be provided with a free 'Be Box' wireless router (normally retails for £116). We originally reported on the new service at the beginning of the month.

Based on ADSL2+ technology (doubles the download bandwidth) and thanks to LLU (Local Loop Unbundling), Be Unlimited's new service should help to give the UK's broadband market a much-needed shake-up. The rollout will start in London, quickly expanding to the rest of the UK, according to the company.

'We are hoping to build a very special community of pilot members,' said Dana Pressman, Managing Director of Be. 'For anyone interested in new technology and the fastest speeds, this will be a must have product.' Be has built a completely new network based on the latest ADSL2+ technology, which it says allows it to deliver a very high quality product at an exceedingly competitive price.

'The Be team has worked really hard to be able to be the first ISP to offer ADSL 2+ to Britain,' said Dana Pressman. 'We are all really excited about launching such a groundbreaking product.'

Be are guaranteeing a monthly broadband service charge of just £20 (payable from 1 October 2005) for all pilot members. To join the pilot, Londoners will need to have a BT telephone line that can be connected to a telephone exchange where Be has fitted its equipment. To register, go to www.bethere.co.uk/pilot.
