Corel Paint Shop Pro Goes X

Corel has released Paint Shop Pro X, a major product in Corel's digital imaging portfolio and the first version of the software to be introduced since Corel's acquisition of Jasc in October 2004. Corel Paint Shop Pro X sports a revamped user interface featuring a new, integrated Learning Center and Browser palette.

Paint Shop Pro X is designed to accelerate learning and increase productivity for farily competent image editors. Tools are now organised by task within the Learning Center palette, enabling users of all skill levels to produce professional-looking results with no previous photo editing experience required, claims Corel. There's also a combination of one-click fixes and precision controls for fine tuning.

Some other key new features include a new Smart Photo Fix tool which analyses a photo and suggests settings to auto-correct colour, brightness, sharpness, and saturation - all in one step. A new collection of extreme Makeover Tools should help you to quickly and easily retouch the subjects in your photos, while the Object Remover lets you eliminate unwanted elements from photos, intelligently filling in the resulting gaps with appropriate background detail.

Improved Special Effects filters in Paint Shop Pro X allow you to convert images to simulated black and white infrared or apply colour filters while converting to black and white images, and support for 16-bit/channel adjustments, ICC-based colour management, the ability to import and export CMYK images using ICC profiles, along with enhanced monitor calibration that allows LCD screens to be correctly calibrated, are all included.

Paint Shop Pro X now supports over 20 camera RAW file formats, batch processing, and includes a Perspective Correction tool to fix buildings, landmarks, or objects in photos that appear to be in the wrong perspective or that were taken from an angle other than directly in front. Finally, the Straighten tool lets you align crooked photos and automatically crop the edges using any line in the photo.
