Apple Computer has confirmed problems in iTunes 5 and promises a fix by early next week. Reports from around the Web claim problems exist within iTunes 5, including computer crashes, problems with purchased tunes, as well as deleted playlists and instability. At the moment, it seems like the problems only exist on the Windows version of the software.
iTunes 5 was released just last week, but it already seems to be falling short of users' expectations. In addition to an almost non-visible design 'tweak', the software seems to be giving many iPod owners headaches. Apple has acknowledged all the problems and said it's working on an update.
The popular software, which allows you to listen to music on your computer and transfer audio files to an iPod, represents Apple's first big foray into designing software that works with Microsoft Windows. It seems the company still has a long way to go.
Among those reporting problems, it seems many say that trying to install the program causes their computers to crash. Others report that once they install the program, it won't transfer music purchased at the iTunes Music Store to their iPod, deletes playlists, interferes with other programs or generally wreaks havoc on their computers. What's worse, rolling back to a previous version of the software can be difficult or impossible.
Version 5 brings new features and a tweaked look to the world's most popular digital music jukebox and online music store, including a new Search Bar, the ability to organise playlists into folders, and a Smart Shuffle feature that lets you change the 'randomness' of shuffled songs.
Windows users can also automatically sync contacts and calendars from Outlook onto their iPods, and the iTunes Music Store now features parental controls and album reviews. In addition, the iTunes Music Store features now sports a catalogue of over two million songs, making it the largest online music catalogue in the world.
The iTunes Music Store now features over 1000 album reviews from Apple's team of music experts. The reviews cover some of the best albums over the past 50 years, including current hits from Coldplay, Kanye West and Yo-Yo Ma, as well as classic artists such as Pink Floyd, Johnny Cash and Frank Sinatra.
