BT's latest online move is to help British small businesses by cutting the price of its entry-level business broadband package to £19.99 (ex. VAT, per month), down from £21.99 (ex. VAT). The company's Business Broadband package is now £5 less than the cost of BT/Yahoo Broadband for the home market, though you're not allowed to share your connection between multiple PCs.
Business Broadband Lite offers up to 2Mbit/s download speed and increases usage allowance from 2GB to 10GB per month, which should be adequate for the majority of businesses. You also get free connection and a router, as well as firewall, e-mail anti-virus and anti-spam filter as standard.
However, for exceeding the monthly allowance BT charges £4 extra (ex. VAT) for more than 2GB usage, £8 extra (ex. VAT) for more than 3GB usage, and £12 extra (ex. VAT) for more than 6GB usage.
The move comes following research conducted for BT by the British Board of Commerce which shows some 90 per cent of UK small businesses said they do not invest in new technology, citing confusing jargon as the major deterrent.
Premium options include an Unlimited Share system for £45 (ex. VAT) per month. An Unlimited Network, which includes response service guaranteed within 24 hours, costs £65 per month. The Network Premium service, which includes an eight hour response, costs £100 per month.
BT says that its business service offers 24/7 support for all of a customer's IT issues including computing, networking, software and application issues and assistance with installation. This includes remote access software.
