Trust's latest audio set comes with a convenient clamp to attach it to a laptop screen. With its compact design, Trust's USB Speaker Set (SP-2930P) gives a new definition to portable speakers.
This ultra-slim, portable USB 1.1 speaker set (189x28x59mm) does not take any space on a desk because it can be easily attached to the screen of a laptop, using the convenient integrated clamp. As a result it should immediately enrich the sound of your laptop.
The clamp can also be used as a speaker stand, so it can be placed on a desk if you intend to use the set with your desktop computer. Thanks to the clamp that keeps the USB cable in place, it should also be easy to carry after use. And because no power adapter is needed, the device requires only little room in a bag.
The downside is the there are no dedicated volume and equaliser settings, so you'll have to alter playback levels via your favourite media player software. The speakers will be available form the beginning of January for just £16.99 (inc. VAT).
The major benefit of USB speakers is that they allow mobile users and those in small rooms to establish their own 2-way sound system at an affordable price - and without an AC adapter or sound card. Ideal for laptop users and dorm rooms, one cable does it all - just plug into your USB port and you will be ready to enjoy digital quality sound from a small package. Just don't expect room-shaking bass or volume levels - you're not likely to get more than 1-Watts! You can also forget about 5.1 virtual surround sound.
A USB speaker is a speaker that relies on one connection (a USB connection from your PC) to provide both audio and power to the listener. Streaming audio is sent via the USB interface and power is provided through the USB connection.
The core subsystems include include a USB DAC, audio power amplifier and amplifier monitor (SVS). The DAC communicates with a PC it is connected to and converts the streaming audio into analogue format for amplification and driving the speaker.
The audio amplifier provides the power amplification to drive the speaker. USB power requirements specify compliance to a maximum of 5V and 500mA. In order to prevent the amplifier from trying to source more power, a monitoring/feedback circuit is implemented to reduce the output power from the audio amplifier.
