i-Mate PDA-N GPS Pocket PC

i-Mate’s latest offering is a Pocket PC with built-in GPS receiver running the new 5.0 version of Microsoft Windows Mobile.

The i-Mate PDA-N (£245) is a bit of a powerhouse. Not only does it comes with integrated GPS (WAAS-enabled, 12 parallel channel receiver), but it also includes Bluetooth and Wi-Fi.

Complemented by the 2.8-inch LCD screen with a resolution of 240x320 pixels, the PDA-N (59x18x110mm, 126g) promises exceptional GPS reception.

Not only that, but the PDA-N has Skype built-in, allowing you to make free voice calls to other Skype users. While the unit only has 128MB of memory, its media playback capabilities are fairly robust for a PDA and include WAV, MP3, WMA and AMR in the sound department and M-JPEG and WMV for video playback. Unusually, there's no camera onboard.

Technical specifications include a 300MHz Samsung SC32442X33 processor, 128MB embedded Flash ROM, 64MB embedded SDRAM, SDIO/MMC card slot, 3.5mm audio jack, MiniUSB connector, Infrared (IrDA). You also get a soft carrying case, stereo wired headset with microphone, car holder and car adapter.

According to i-Mate, the PDA-N notches up a rated battery life of 5 hours in GPS mode and 8 hours playing a looped video.
