Buffalo has announced the worlds first DLNA Certified NAS Devices. The LinkStation Home Server, available in capacities of 300GB (HS-D300GL) and 400GB (HS-D400GL) and the 1TB TeraStation Home Server (HS-D1.0GL/R5) have been certified for meeting all DLNA (Digital Living Network Alliance) Guidelines and passing strict DLNA interoperability testing standards.
DLNA created and maintains the Home Networked Device Interoperability Guidelines, designed for cross-industry digital convergence, thus allowing for seamless compatibility and interoperability amongst home digital devices. Users can access videos, photos or music stored on the LinkStation Home Server or TeraStation Home Server and play it back on any digital device designed to DLNA guidelines in the home.
The consumer market has been in desperate need of a clear standard that enables digital devices to seamlessly interoperate. By working with leading consumer electronics manufactures DLNA has pioneered the effort to address this vital consumer need, stated Morikazu Sano, senior vice president of global marketing at Buffalo Technology.
The LinkStation and TeraStation are destined to be the centrepiece of the digital home. Certifying these products through DLNA underscores Buffalos commitment to consumers to bring affordable, high performance solutions that are completely compatible and interoperable with just about any other multi-media device in todays digital home.
The LinkStation Home Server and TeraStation Home Server feature Mediabolics NAS Media Server software, which provides centralised management and digital content distribution to multiple PCs or network entertainment devices on the home network. Both products give you the ability to access the same digital file simultaneously and play it in different locations throughout the home. You can protect precious data by restricting access with group and user level security. The products features Memeos AutoBackup software to protect against data loss.
The TeraStation and the LinkStation both include a 10/100/1000Base-T Gigabit Ethernet port and Jumbo Frame technology for higher transfer speeds than standard Gigabit networks. The products are Windows and Macintosh compatible and include a built-in USB print server so users can share a network printer. The products also feature a file server so users can share files across their network and an FTP server function, which allows users to access and transfer data from any machine with Internet connectivity.
The LinkStation features two USB ports. The TeraStation features four USB ports and four operational modes: Standard Mode, Spanning Mode, Mirroring Mode and Raid 5 Mode. Backed by a limited one-year warranty and toll-free 24/7 technical support, the LinkStation Home Server 300GB (HS-D300GL) and 400GB (HS-D400GL) are immediately available at estimated street prices of $399 (£229) and $549 (£316) respectively. The 1TB TeraStation Home Server (HS-D1.0GL/R5) is also immediately available at an estimated street price of $899 (£517).
