ASUS AGEIA PhysX-Based Graphics Card

ASUSTeK Computer (ASUS) has today confirmed that it will be one of the driving forces in the creation of the worldwide physics accelerator market with the revolutionary AGEIA PhysX processor.

ASUS will begin distributing the breakthrough AGEIA PhysX Accelerator cards in May, 2006. ASUS is one of only two companies to manufacture the card, and will be the sole company releasing the top of the range 256MB AGEIA PhysX Accelerator card.

Partners since May, 2005, ASUS and AGEIA Technologies have been working together to develop a totally new category in PC hardware - the physics accelerator card, providing unprecedented realism and immersion for avid PC gamers. The new ASUS card is capable of delivering a completely new gaming experience with dramatic, real-time physical motion and interaction that will change the way we play games forever. Well, that’s what the marketing blurb says!

AGEIA-based physics accelerator cards deliver real-time physical motion and interaction. With dedicated physics hardware acceleration, the Physics Processing Unit (PPU) works in concert with the Central Processing Unit (CPU) and Graphics Processing Unit (GPU), balancing the PC’s computing power between gameplay, graphics and physics. In plain English this means bigger explosions - Yeah!

Today, over 60 developers are planning and creating more than 100 games that will take advantage of the new physics processor. ‘Physics acceleration will do for dynamic game play what graphics cards did for the way games look,’ said Kent Chien, Manager of the Multimedia Department for ASUS. ‘We are excited to be at the forefront of this hardware wave where we can envision the cards becoming as important to games as graphics cards are today.’
