Panda Software Adds Anti-Rootkit Technology

The new versions of Panda Software’s Titanium 2006 Antivirus and Platinum 2006 Internet Security include a new technology specifically designed to detect processes hidden in memory, a technique frequently used by rootkits.

All users of these Panda products will receive the free update of their software to include this technology.

The Panda security solutions protect against viruses, spyware, hacking tools, and the like. The new anti-rootkit technology scans and detects suspicious processes hidden in memory.

This technique is frequently used by rootkits, programs that have been used, particularly over recent months, to hide malicious code. This enables viruses and trojans to remain undetected by anti-virus solutions.

Rootkits are being widely used by cyber-criminals who are paying hackers to create this type of application and test them against all antivirus engines to ensure they aren’t detected. This business model has become a popular source of revenue among hackers and malware creators.

By using rootkits, trojans and other types of malicious code can be hidden on computers. The hidden trojan can then surreptitiously operate maliciously without the knowledge or consent of you and without interference from the anti-virus solution. In consequence, you could be oblivious to your computer sending spam, launching denial of service attacks, and the like.

With technologies specifically designed to detect this type of application, such as those included in Titanium and Platinum, rootkits can be sniffed out, along with the malware they are hiding, thereby ensuring users’ privacy and security.

Rootkits have become a serious problem in recent months, as although the concept itself is nothing new, they are complicated to detect, as are the programs they hide. With this update to its products, processes hidden in memory by rootkits are detected and analysed by the antimalware engine, blocking them if identified as dangerous, so our users are protected against this malware technique.
