Sound Devices has unveiled two additions to its 7-series line of portable digital recorders.
The 702 and 702T are two-channel recorders which share the field-tested chassis design and superb sound quality of the successful 722 and 744T digital recorders. The 702 and 702T (with time code) are Compact Flash-only recorders.
There are sound mixers who need truly professional tools with peerless audio performance. Our 7-Series will always be for that type of customer, stated Jim Koomar, Director of Worldwide Sales for Sound Devices.
As Compact Flash card capacities go up and their cost goes down, customers working on commercial and ENG productions can now fit a full days sound files on a single, cost-effective solid-state Compact Flash card. These new recorders effectively close the history books on tape-based recorders for production sound.
The 702 and 702T recorders are available for immediate shipment from Sound Devices and have a suggested retail price of $2175 (£1241) and $2650 (£1513) respectively. Availability at Sound Devices Resellers and Distributors is expected before April.
The 702 and 702T are built on the foundation that have made the 722 and 744T the most successful recorders in their class, claims the company. Before the 722 and 744T, hard disk recorders were reserved for only the most complex productions with the largest budgets.
The 722 and 744T broke new ground with several industry firsts, including: simultaneous file writing to hard drive and Compact Flash medium, on-board Li-ion charger, ultra-compact dimensions (less than three pounds), sub-$5000 price, and ease of operation.
