USED4semicon Backup Assured

Backup Assured is a new online service aimed at proving small companies and individuals with a cost-effective way to back up computer data off-site. Launched yesterday, the service costs around 76p per day for businesses and around 10p per day for home and individual users.

Backup Assured is an online service - operated via desktop software - that provides an automated daily backup of your computers' files to a securely-hosted location. Your data is then replicated every 24 hours to a second location for added protection. For additional security, there's the option to encrypt all files locally using 256-bit AES before transmitting them over the Internet. As Backup Assured is an online service, it doesn't have any hardware requirements, unlike conventional backup technologies such as Zip, Jaz or tape.

USED4semicon claims the service can be operated by non-experienced PC users because the software's wizards hold your hand through the whole backup process. Once set up, backup sessions can be re-run by clicking an icon or by scheduling them to run automatically at the end of each working day.

Businesses and individuals can have as much backup space as they need. Backed-up data is password protected and can be retrieved from anywhere in the world using a dial-up connection. USED4semicon also mentioned that Backup Assured can be used for preserving and securing any documents that you might need to keep safe for long periods, such as copies of contracts, insurance policies, share certificates and other documentation.

This is great as long as the company and service is still around when you come to need them. It will also prove to be a more costly option compared to other backup technologies if used over a number of years.
