Garmin satellite navigation systems are now able to send and receive SMS text messages.
A simple software update will mean that, when paired with a compatible Bluetooth mobile phone, selected Garmin products will speak text messages when received.
Available on the Nüvi 660, 360 and 360T as well as the StreetPilot c550 (which all feature the text to speak functionality) this new service makes these popular Garmin products even more versatile.
A
Garmin Nüvi is slim enough to take with you wherever you go - while driving or walking; in your pocket or plugged straight into your vehicle. The new wide-screen nüvi 660 is already packed with features such as integrated traffic capabilities, European mapping and preloaded speed camera information.
Users can make and receive hands-free calls using the Bluetooth connectivity, while the unit also features an MP3 and audio book player, JPEG picture viewer, travel alarm and currency converter. In addition, the nüvi range features optional packages to help prepare for long journeys, including the Language Guide, which translates words or phrases and the Travel Guide with information about tourist sites and attractions.
To enable the text messaging facility the latest software update has to be installed. Garmin customers with compatible GPS units may obtain this free software update by visiting
www.garmin.com/support/.
Short Messaging Service (SMS) is available on most mobile phones that permit the sending of short messages. For an updated listing of compatible phones that support SMS text messaging, visit
www.garmin.com/bluetooth/phones.jsp.
