Alera Technologies Digital Photo Copy Cruiser

US-based Alera Technologies' innovative Digital Photo Copy Cruiser lets you copy photos directly from your digital camera's memory cards to a CD independently of a computer. Targeted at digital photographers, the portable device lets you add data from memory cards to a CD in multi-session format so the full capacity of a CD can be used. For example, around twenty one 32MB Flash memory cards can be copied to a 700MB CD. The device can also be used as a 36/12/48X CD re-writer when connected to your computer.

Around 10.1m digital cameras will ship this year, according to the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA), which is around $2.9bn in terms of value. As a result, an increasing number of companies are manufacturing peripherals that attempt to make storing, transferring and sharing digital photographs quicker and more intuitive. With its consumer-like black appearance, Alera Technologies is hoping its Digital Photo Copy Cruiser will appeal to a very broad range of users.

The 3.17kg device supports all of the most popular memory types, including CF Type I/II, SD, MMC, SmartMedia, Memory Stick, Memory Stick Pro, and IBM Microdrives. It also comes equipped with a USB 2.0 port and can be connected to a computer and used as a CD re-writer. CD authoring software comes in the form of Ahead Software's Nero and image-handling is provided by Ulead Systems' Photo Explorer. You also get an AC power adapter, a Quick Start Guide and a Users Guide. Unfortunately, there's no built-in rechargeable battery, so the device has to be used connected to a power supply.
