LANDesk Software LANDesk Asset Manager 8

LANDesk Asset Manager is an add-on software module for LanDesk Software's LANDesk Management Suite 8.1. The software's designed for larger organisations to track both computer and non-computer assets, including contractual assets, maintenance agreements, telephones and office equipment. LANDesk Asset Manager lets you access all stored asset data from a single asset repository, automatically discover computers on your network and create detailed inventories of installed hardware and software, monitor and report on software license usage, and control access to asset data based on users' roles in your organisation. Your company may also be interested in the software if it intends to comply more effectively with regulatory requirements, such as the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002, by actively tracking both computer and non-computer assets.

Pros: Centralised repository; Web-based console; predefined reporting
Cons: Requires Management Suite; expensive for small companies

Release: LANDesk Software, a leader in integrated solutions for desktop, server and mobile device management, has introduced LANDesk Asset Manager, a new add-on module to the award-winning LANDesk Management Suite 8, version 8.1, that helps IT and finance organisations to proactively manage corporate assets. LANDesk Asset Manager enables organisations to maximise existing IT investments and reduce their total cost of ownership by eliminating unnecessary software and hardware costs, and aligning service resources with accepted standards, such as IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL), and regulatory compliance requirements such as Sarbanes-Oxley.

'Within our IT environment we have a large number of IT assets, that need to be monitored closely and linked back to our lease contracts,' said Stephen Chilton, technical development manager at University Hospital Birmingham. 'Asset Manager enables us to plan our lease life cycle more efficiently and manage our lease agreements proficiently. This allows us to eliminate the administrative burden often associated with the management of leased IT assets, thereby cutting costs'.

Additionally LANDesk has announced the availability of the LANDesk Connectors, which integrate with the new LANDesk Management Suite 8, version 8.1, these connectors allow integration to leading helpdesk solutions and popular management frameworks. These new connectors enable integration with Peregrine and Remedy, allowing administrators to quickly resolve IT issues from within the same console. Further, network administrators can harness powerful inventory data within LANDesk Management Suite through the most common management frameworks, including HP OpenView and IBM Tivoli.

Key business benefits of LANDesk Asset Manager include: better compliance with regulatory requirements and standards - organisations can more closely follow accepted process standards, such as ITIL, and help meet regulatory compliance requirements such as the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002, by actively tracking both computer and non-computer assets, including contracts, maintenance agreements, phones, office equipment and more; greater financial controls for better planning - the centralised repository allows personnel from multiple departments to have role-based access to real time inventory information. This enables them to analyse specific costs and negotiate purchases according to their individual department needs; and on-demand asset process alignment between finance and IT - a Web-based reporting and analysis tool allows the extraction of asset and usage data anywhere. This provides real time information to facilitate more timely and informed business decision-making.

LANDesk Asset Manager is an add-on product that integrates seamlessly into the LANDesk Management Suite 8 console. It is available today through LANDesk Expert Solution Providers (ESP) today at a manufacturer's suggested retail price of $10,000 (£5,577) per concurrent console user. To locate a LANDesk Software ESP visit the LANDesk Software Web site at www.landesksoftware.co.uk/wheretobuy. The new helpdesk and management framework connectors are available for $25,000 (£13,942) each, in conjunction with LANDesk Management Suite 8.1 through LANDesk Expert Solutions Providers (ESP).
