Belkin plans to brighten up your desktop with its USB Lighted Cable series. It's hard to get excited about the cable's claimed high-level of performance and error-free data transfers, but the fact that the two connectors at each end of the cable light up when plugged into your computer is pretty impressive. Available with blue (reviewed here), green, red and white LEDs, the USB Lighted Cable is sure to brighten up any drab-looking desktop PC and will turn heads when used with a laptop in a public place. A neat addition for any user that wants to brighten up their computing.
Pros: High-quality cable; guaranteed to brighten up your computing
Cons: 90cm cable length may be too restrictive
The USB Lighted Cable features A-to-B connectivity and features a low-power-consumption, bright LED that lights up the connector plugs in one of four colours. Our review sample came with a blue LED, which perfectly matched the pre-installed blue LED fan of our test system's enclosure, the stylish
Super LANBOY. As well as adding a little vigour to your desktop system, the LEDs also help you to locate external devices in the dark.
The cable is used to connect peripherals that have a standard USB-B plug to your computer's or hub's USB 1.1 or 2.0 ports. A braid-and-foil shield construction reduces EMI/RFI interference, according to Belkin, but a length of just 90cm is a little impractical for those who, like us, place their PC as far away from their workspace as possible. However, Belkin does offer the cable with a 1.8m length (£16.99), which is more useful. The cable comes with a lifetime warranty.
