What makes PureRadio 2.1 so appealing is that it simplifies the process of connecting to and listening to Internet broadcasts. Unlike well-known media players that offer a complete solution for managing and ripping music as well as Internet radio facilities, PureRadio is created for the sole purpose of listening to Internet Radio. While this may be limiting for some, others will welcome its simplicity.
Pros: Easy to use; uncluttered interface
Cons: Free media players offer Internet radio; minimal features
InKline Global's PureRadio 2.1 is an Internet radio player for systems running Windows operating systems. Unlike well-known media players, such as Windows Media Player and MusicMatch, that offer a complete solution for managing and ripping music as well as Internet radio facilities, PureRadio only offers Internet radio features. While this may be limiting for some, others will welcome its simplicity.
The software is created for the sole purpose of listening to Real Format and Windows Media Audio streams. This means you can forget fancy visualisations that pulsate along with the music, the ability to create personalised montages of photos and graphics that play along with music, or even support for downloadable skins. In fact, you don't even get a set of graphic equalisers to tweak output.
What you do get is a regularly updated list of thousands of radio stations that can be added to your playlist at the click of a button. Windows Media Audio streams can also be recorded to your hard disk, but the record functionality doesn't yet support Real Format streams. There's no support for transferring broadcasts directly to portable digital audio players, either.
Tuning into your favourite radio show requires you to pick a station from the supplied categories or choose by locality. If you can't find the station you're looking for, you can add your own by using the preset buttons. Similar to other players, PureRadio 2.1 can be minimised so that it doesn't clutter your workspace, or let onto your boss that you're using company bandwidth.
