Riello Galatrek's Dialog Plus is a new uninterruptible power supply (UPS) specifically designed to solve the power protection problems facing Voice-over-IP telephony and Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) technologies. Aimed at small to medium-sized file servers, PBX systems, and point of sale back office systems, the Dialog Plus series includes 700-, 1000-, 1500-, 2000-, and 3000VA models and uses double conversion online technology (VFI). Dialog Plus S models have internal batteries, while Dialog Plus ER models are supplied with a larger internal charger. Both the S and ER versions can have battery extension packs but the ER is more suitable for very long back up periods and offers improved recharge times. When the mains fails, the inverter which is constantly powering the load simply draws power from the internal battery to provide protection. PowerShield² UPS monitoring and control software also comes included, with an SNMP agent for Windows Mac OS X, 9.x, Linux, NT 4.0, and Novell operating systems. A wide range of NetMan SNMP interfaces and MultiCom adapters are also available, and the 19in. rack model also has a rear panel slot for an internal SNMP network adapter card.

Release: The new Dialog Plus from Riello Galatrek is an online uninterruptible power supply specifically designed to solve the power protection problems facing Voice-over-IP telephony and Power over Ethernet technologies. Both offer a host of benefits which power disruptions can dramatically remove.

Power over Ethernet (PoE) is a way of providing electrical power to network ports along existing category five 10BaseT and 100Base-TX Ethernet cabling. From the ports compatible equipment such as a PoE compatible telephone handsets, cameras and security devices can be powered, managed and controlled. Voice over IP (VoIP) telephony is a way of providing unified messaging and communication over remote IP addresses with resultant cost savings and efficiencies over traditional telephony.

The new Dialog Plus is available in 700VA to 3000VA power modules and both floor standing and 19in. rack mount formats to offer the maximum number of installation options. The UPS have been designed to occupy the smallest possible foot prints and rack heights for an on-line UPS. The 3000VA rack mount unit at 2U high is 50 per cent smaller than previous models.

Each UPS has a number of output sockets from which uninterruptible power can be drawn continuously. The 3000VA model is capable of powering up to 6 separate devices such as file servers, PBXs, PoE enabled network switches, advanced telephony handsets, cameras and security devices.

To provide power failure protection Dialog Plus is available with a standard internal battery which will typically run for 13 minutes at full load. This can be extended using modular battery packs to over 7 hours. Fast recharge times have also been catered for. The modular battery packs can be recharged in less than 8 hours and automatic battery testing and management help to prolong their working life.

For remote management and control each Dialog Plus has an informative front panel LED display, RS232 port and communications expansion slot. The RS232 port allows remote management using the PowerShield² software supplied with each UPS over a local area network or for data centre usage, the more sophisticated PowerNetGuard package. The communications expansion slot is compatible with the Riello UPS range of cards to provide SNMP, MODBUS/JBUS, serial duplex communications.
