Intel has announced a bunch of tools to help software developers build threaded applications on multi-core platforms. The chipmaker updated its compilers for C++ and Fortran programming languages to version 9.0. The compilers should help developers produce multi-threaded Linux and Windows applications and exploit Intel's multi-cored and Hyper-Threaded chippery.
The tools include an auto-parallelization option that automatically seeks opportunities in applications to create multiple execution threads, the company said in a statement. The software supports OpenMP 2.5, an industry standard designed to simplify the creation and management of multi-threaded application software.
Intel says the tools offer application-level security support options for Linux environments, matching the security features for Windows environments by reducing buffer overflow vulnerabilities.
It says version 9.0 of its C++ compiler is available now, starting at $399 for either Windows or Linux versions. Version 9.0 of the Intel Fortran compiler is available now starting at $499 for Windows or Linux versions. More information is available from Intel
