Opera Software has announced the release of its first Home Media Software Development Kit (SDK) to use the Generic Opera Graphical Interface (GOGI), Opera's porting technology. Opera's new SDK is designed to bring the full Internet to connected devices, and enables original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to add the Opera browser to their products.
Opera for Home Media is a suite of Internet technologies for electronic devices that adapt the Internet experience to suit varying screen sizes and input devices. In addition to being a full Internet browser, Opera is an execution environment for Web applications and dynamic user interfaces based on interoperable Web technologies.
The Opera Home Media SDK is currently available for Linux-based consumer electronics devices, such as media players and set-top boxes. It is a small, lightweight and flexible solution that is pre-ported to popular architectures, designed to reduce costs and time to market. GOGI is a feature-rich, high performance interface that enables developers to integrate Opera with their customised user interfaces and graphical toolkits, accoring to the company.
'Opera's GOGI API has already been used to port Opera to millions of devices,' says Jon von Tetzchner, CEO, Opera Software. 'By making this unique solution available for the diverse consumer electronics market, OEMs can now easily include Opera's interoperable Web technology and offer a rich Internet experience on their devices.'
