VoodooPC Mac Mini Alternative

The IDOL is Voodoo PC's smallest personal computer to date. Featuring a DVI interface, fast performance and a slot-loading optical drive, this unique system is no bigger than the Apple Mac Mini, but runs on an Intel platform and is more powerful.

The IDOL is powered by an Intel Pentium M processor and comes in 11 colours, including white. Featuring a footprint of 6.5-inch squared, the system also boasts a 7200rpm Hitachi hard disk drive, 10/100Mbit/s Ethernet card and choice of Windows operating systems.

Of course, such as compromise in size has to mean technical limitations. In this case, the IDOL requires an external power supply, it can accommodate only one optical drive, has integrated graphics (DVI and S-Video out), and doesn't support surround sound (2.1 audio chipset built-in).

'Voodoo is committed to pushing the limits and continual innovation of our product line, delivering additional functionality and choice to our customers," said Rahul Sood, president and CTO, VoodooPC. 'When it comes to selecting a PC, we believe our customers should never have to compromise.'

The IDOL may be ideal as a secondary PC in the home. Like all Voodoo machines, you can can choose your colour and tattoo to coordinate with your home and personality. 'This flexible machine suits the needs of a variety of users,' said Trevor Kells, production team leader, VoodooPC. 'Our customers play a critical role in the development of new products and they continue to shape our product line.'

The Mac mini is Apple's smallest a lowest-cost desktop computer to date. Available from just $499, all models in the line now include 512MB of memory as standard. The Mac mini also features built-in wireless networking with AirPort Extreme and Bluetooth (from $599), and the ability to burn DVDs with a SuperDrive ($699).

The Mac mini lineup includes three models: 1.25GHz Mac mini, 1.42GHz Mac mini and the new 1.42GHz Mac mini with SuperDrive for burning DVDs and CDs. Connectivity includes one FireWire 400 and two USB 2.0 ports, DVI interface that also supports VGA, and built-in 10/100 BASE-T NIC. Every Mac mini includes Mac OS X version 10.4 'Tiger' OS and iLife '05.
